Newport Lakes Bush Kids – Primary School

  •  15/01/2018
     1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Do you have a child that LOVES the outdoors? Then our Bush Kids program is just for them! Come and join us for an afternoon of nature connection, exploration, learning bush skills, nature craft, stories, song and bushwalking at Newport Lakes Reserve.

Our Bush Kids program aims at giving children every opportunity to be immersed in nature in a fun, yet supportive and highly engaging manner. The kids will learn essential bush skills such as tracking, bird and wildlife identification, going on a bug hunt and learning about these fascinating crawly creatures. They will also learn to tie knots, make their own cordage from vines and make constructions (such as mini boats and rafts) out of sticks to sail on the lake. Each session has a different theme and activity so you can come for all three but be prepared to leave dirty!

Our program has been developed to give your child optimum opportunity to develop confidence through safe risk-taking and learning real skills using real tools. Research clearly shows that the more time your child spends in nature, the better they are prepared for school, both physically and emotionally.

Our workshop facilitator, Ashlee is a qualified and experienced, early childhood educator who has been working as a wilderness camp leader and as a theatre puppet maker for children for nearly 10 years. She has a passion for connecting children to nature and does so through creative activities, stories and games.

Ages: 3 – 12 years (parents need to stay for the session).

*Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
