At Eco Explorers, we love any opportunity to celebrate our planet and teach children the importance of caring for the natural world. Earth Hour 2026, happening on Saturday, 28th April at 8.30pm, is the perfect time for families to come together, switch off their lights, and reflect on how we can protect our environment.
Earth Hour is more than just turning off the lights for an hour. It’s a global movement that encourages people of all ages to think about their impact on the planet and take action for a sustainable future. For children, it’s a simple but powerful way to learn about energy conservation, climate change, and the importance of protecting our forests, rivers, and wildlife.
5 Special Family Activities for Earth Hour 2026
- Silent Family Walk – Take a gentle walk around your backyard or block. Notice the sounds, smells, and textures of the night, practicing mindful awareness as a family.
- Backyard Camping Adventure – Pitch a tent or lay blankets outside, listen to the sounds of the night, and gaze at the stars together. A simple way to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors.
- Candlelit Storytime – Light a few candles or battery-safe lanterns and share stories, read a book aloud, or take turns making up imaginative tales.
- Stargazing and Sky Spotting – Lie on a blanket and point out constellations, planets, or the moon. Encourage children to imagine the stories behind the stars.
- Nature Journaling by Torchlight – Take a quiet moment to draw, write, or reflect on the day. Capture observations of nature, thoughts, or feelings—without screens.
This Earth Hour, we encourage everyone to take small actions that make a big difference. Whether it’s turning off lights, unplugging devices and spending quality time together as every step counts.
By celebrating Earth Hour, we teach children that even small choices matter. It’s an opportunity to model sustainability, connect as a family, and take one hour to pause, appreciate, and protect the world around us.
Join Eco Explorers in switching off for Earth Hour 2026, and let’s inspire the next generation of nature lovers and environmental stewards.
